The Cardiac Rehabilitation team is a multidisciplinary team made up of Physiotherapists, Nurses, and Therapy Assistants who work across the Wakefield District with those who have a Cardiac history or recent event.

About us

Following a period of rest and recovery time, you would be invited for a thorough assessment to review your rehabilitation goals and a safe and effective treatment plan will be made specifically for you.

Individual’s goals may differ from person to person. For example, some may wish to improve their walking distance and others’ may wish to return to high level sport.

The treatment plan may include outpatient appointment, home visits and structured group programmes.

The education and exercise groups are held at Thornes Park stadium (Wakefield) and Aspire in the Park (Pontefract).

We also offer a specific group once a week for Heart failure patients which is a ‘gentler’ exercise group based in Normanton.

Conditions we treat

  • Newly diagnosed myocardial infarction
  • Coronary artery bypass graft
  • Valve replacement
  • Percutaneous coronary intervention with stents
  • Heart failure
  • Angina
