At Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, we understand that nutrition is an essential part of the healing process.
Our dedicated Patient Catering team works to provide wholesome, nutritious, and personalised meals to support your recovery and well-being during your stay.
Services we provide
We believe in offering meals that not only meet your dietary needs but also contribute to your overall health and comfort. Our meals are crafted with care, keeping in mind medical conditions, allergies, and preferences.
We provide on average 5,800 meals a month over breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the patients at across our three hospital sites at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.
Our meals are supplied by Apetito and are nutritionally balanced and catered to specific dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, diabetic, and more.
We also provide drinks for the patients at Pinderfields Dewsbury and Pontefract Hospitals along with an assortment of pantry items subject to availability.
Daily menus
Our menu changes regularly to offer variety and seasonal choices. You can access our daily menus below:
Breakfast:
Breakfast consist of a continental style with a selection of cereals, toast and porridge offered at ward level.
Lunch and Dinner:
We offer a two-week main menu, providing individual meals of two courses for lunch and dinner with hot and cold options such as jacket potato with fillings, salads selections, sandwiches, daily hot options such as cottage pies and pasties. Dessert at lunch includes a selection of ice cream and cakes with or without custard.
Snacks and beverages:
Available throughout the day, including tea, coffee, herbal infusions, and healthy snacks.
Additional menus
Our catering team is experienced in managing various dietary restrictions and medical needs. Whether you are following a special diet due to a medical condition, allergy, or religious requirement, we can accommodate your needs.
Texture modified (IDDSI) levels 3-6: IDDSI is a new global standard that describes Texture Modified foods and liquids. It is a result of a collaboration of industry professionals, including dietitians, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists. It means that we will offer catering to those who need their meals to be easy to chew, soft and bite-sized, minced, and moist, or liquidised.
Diabetic-friendly: Meals designed to help manage blood sugar levels.

Vegan: We have permanent vegan menu offering plant-based dishes all year round.
Allergy free: Prepared in a safe environment to avoid cross-contamination.
Renal: We have a menu that has been specially prepared for patients with impaired kidney function. The foods on this menu are lower in salt, potassium and phosphate.
Caribbean and West Indian meals: Prepared following cultural and religious guidelines.

Children's: We have a children’s menu which is offered as an alternative to the main daily core menu.
Dementia menus have also been designed to encourage patients to eat as independently as possible.
