MY Greener NHS
We are committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040, as part of the Greener NHS programme.
MY Greener NHS
We have a bold vision for our sustainability work. We want to be at the forefront of the agenda and to be a pioneering force for good in terms of decarbonising the NHS system, whilst also delivering broader sustainability benefits within our locality and beyond.
We see an emphasis on ‘place’ as being the cornerstone of our future success and we will work collaboratively with others to achieve our shared collective goals.
Our green ambitions
As an organisation, we have outlined four key ambitions for our sustainability activities. These are to:
- Go further and faster than the central NHS mandate, in delivering net zero for our direct carbon footprint by no later than 2038.
- Pioneer the testing and implementation of innovations and novel solutions within our hospital settings.
- Be an anchor institution that serves our local community’s needs – not just in terms of providing direct healthcare – but with respect to fostering wider benefits relating to improved quality of life outcomes and the transition towards a more circular and regenerative economy.
- Place sustainability at the core of everything we do going forwards, culturally and operationally.
MY Green Plan
Our Green Plan sets the scene for the work we will do over the next three years to expand and accelerate our existing decarbonisation programme and support the system’s vital work to make the NHS net zero.
In the video below, our Chief Executive, Len Richards, talks about our Green Plan, the importance of tackling climate change and what we can all do to make a positive difference to the environment.
