Gain experience working in the NHS
If you're a veteran or a member of the Armed Forces community, we are offering you the opportunity to explore career options in the NHS through volunteering. In partnership with Helpforce, a national charity, this programme provides a chance to gain practical experience by volunteering at our hospitals.
Successful applicants will start in one of our highly valued hospital volunteering roles, to learn more about the NHS and a hospital setting before exploring experience specific to their chosen area of interest.
The benefits of the programme
- A fantastic way to get a feel for roles in the NHS before committing to a permanent role.
- Develop your knowledge of the different roles and opportunities in health and care.
- Training and support with the application and recruitment process at Mid Yorks.
- Build confidence while transitioning into civilian life.
- Our volunteers develop new skills, meet new people and contribute greatly to patient experience.
How do we support the Armed Forces community?
We are proud to be a forces-friendly employer, supporting the Armed Forces community both as an employer and a health and social care provider.
We offer:
- Guaranteed interviews for service leavers, ex-military personnel, and reservists who meet the essential criteria for a role.
- Career opportunities and support for our staff who are part of the Armed Forces community.
- A dedicated Armed Forces Staff Network that meets regularly.
- An Armed Forces Staff policy which sets out the support we provide, including paid time off for Reservists and Cadet Instructors to attend training.
