Celebrating our Physician Associates
In support of Physician Associate Week (6-12 October) we are celebrating and saying thank you to all of our Physician Associates who work here at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.
Physician Associates, also known as PAs, are medically trained healthcare professionals, who work as part of our multidisciplinary team to provide care for our patients.
Our PAs are involved in a number of areas of patient care, from taking medical histories, performing physical exams and diagnostic procedures, to analysing test results, planning patient discharges, diagnosing illnesses and developing patient management plans, under the supervision of a senior doctor.
Emma Jenkinson, a Physician Associate who works in Respiratory at Pinderfields Hospital, said: “As an experienced Physician Associate, an aspect of my job I particularly enjoy is supporting our new resident doctors with settling into their rotations. I work with the rota team to ensure each doctor gets experience of working on our acute respiratory care unit, learning how to appropriately look after patients requiring a higher level of care.
“PAs at Mid Yorkshire are well integrated into the multidisciplinary team offering valuable support to the ward team. I am proud to be part of the team here and feel very supported by our senior colleagues.”
All Physician Associates working in the NHS have a health-related first degree, followed by two years of post-graduate study – including 1,600 hours of on-the-job training.
Thank you for your hard work and dedication.
