Waiting Well project wins Excellence award

A partnership project that supports people who have waited over 35 weeks for elective surgery to stay fit and well while waiting for their surgery, has won an Excellence award.

The Waiting Well partnership is made up of Live Well Wakefield, Wakefield District Health and Care Partnership, and Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.

The partnership provides patients with proactive personalised care while they wait, such as help with mental health issues, housing, pain management, finances, relationship support and carers responsibilities.

The team has made over 200 referrals for patients to other services, for example helping them with access to specialist aids and equipment, and the challenges of daily living whilst waiting for surgery.

Waiting Well adopts a cross sector system partnership approach to care, pooling together strengths and resources to advocate for innovative personal care approaches for patients.

The South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Excellence awards are held each year to celebrate and recognise healthcare staff.

The Waiting Well partnership won the Partnership Working Excellence award. It was also shortlisted in the 2023 HSJ Patient Safety Awards in the Patient Safety in Elective Recovery category.
