Volunteer to Career for the Armed Forces community

As part of our commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community, the Trust has signed up to the Volunteer to Career for the Armed Forces community programme.
The programme run by Helpforce - a national charity that supports health and care organisations across the UK to maximise the impact of their volunteers, aims to create a pathway for veterans and the Armed Forces community to work within the healthcare sector.
The Trust has previously run successful Volunteer to Career programmes, which allow applicants to explore careers before committing to a job through career-based volunteering, supported by additional training, and job application and interview support. It helped give them a greater insight into the NHS and working for Mid Yorks.
Dani Norman, Head of Voluntary Services and Work Experience at the Trust, said:
“We know from the experiences of our existing staff that the transition from veteran to civilian life can be challenging. Through volunteering, we aim to help bridge this gap and translate veterans' skills into new opportunities.
This support also extends to the wider Armed Forces community. The programme offers a way to gain experience and a pathway into employment with the NHS.”
Volunteers will start in one of our highly valued hospital volunteering roles, to learn more about the NHS and a hospital setting before delving into experiences related to their chosen area of interest.
One area that the programme is keen to highlight is the diverse range of careers within the NHS. At Mid Yorks, our staff cover a whole range of roles, from clinical to non-clinical, in areas including nursing, support workers, IT, estates, logistics, project management, from entry levels through to management roles.
