Transformative journey makes an impression
The Trust’s Substance Care Team have been nominated for a significant NHS award by local MP Simon Lightwood.
The team are dedicated to supporting patients facing alcohol and drug-related challenges and since November 2022 have expanded their reach and refined their services to place vulnerable patients at the heart of what they do.
The team shared their transformative journey with the Wakefield MP when he met with them early last month. They showcased their service, specifically designed to support the complexities and vulnerabilities of their patients, and the initiatives they had implemented to become an exemplar site.
The MP was so impressed by the team's work that he nominated them for an NHS Parliamentary Award in the Health Equalities category.
The category recognises teams or individuals who bring together different groups to reduce health inequalities and prevent ill health in the community. The Substance Care Team offer comprehensive assessments and support for medically assisted detoxification, and their collaboration with community partners has facilitated seamless transitions for their patients. With their initiative to expand to the Dewsbury site and the implementation of a seven-day service, the team has addressed health inequalities and enhanced outcomes for vulnerable patients.
The shortlist for the Awards will be announced on Monday 10 June with the winners announced at the awards ceremony at Queen Elizabeth II Centre, London on Monday 1 July. The very best of luck to the team!
