MY Hospitals Charity’s Hands Across Wakefield event a huge success

MY Hospitals Charity’s recent Hands Across Wakefield event, supported by Easy Bathrooms, was a resounding success, bringing together the local community to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Pinderfields Hospital. The special event, held in Wakefield, saw thousands of local residents, healthcare professionals, partners and supporters unite in a shared spirit of celebration, reflection, and generosity.

The event, held on Friday 7 March marked a significant milestone for Pinderfields Hospital, which has been serving the community for over a century. Attendees came together to form a symbolic human chain across the city, representing solidarity, care, and the vital role of healthcare in the community.

Keith Ramsay, Chair of MY Hospitals Charity and Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust said;

"We are incredibly proud of this remarkable occasion. The turnout was phenomenal, and it was heartwarming to see so many people come together to celebrate 125 years of Pinderfields Hospital.

“This event was not just a celebration of the hospital’s rich history, but also a testament to the ongoing dedication of our healthcare professionals and the unwavering support of the local community.”

Nicholas Baines, Rt Revd Bishop of Leeds, the Mayor Councillor Darren Byford of Wakefield and Consort Councillor Maureen Tennant King, Mayor Councillor Nosheen Dad of Kirklees and Ed Anderson, CBE, HM Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire all joined the chain, which was followed by a celebration event at Wakefield Cathedral that included performances from local talent, schools and colleges and inspiring speeches that highlighted the hospital’s history and its impact on the local area.

Keith continues; “Thank you to the local businesses, schools and organisations who supported this ambitious event, contributing to its success and fostering a strong sense of community.

On behalf of the charity, I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the volunteers and attendees who made Hands Across Wakefield such a memorable and successful event. The charity looks forward to continuing its work to enhance healthcare services across the region and to fostering even greater community involvement in the future.”

“Pinderfields Hospital has been an essential part of Wakefield for 125 years, and it’s fantastic to see the community come together to celebrate its legacy and future. It was an amazing day, and we’re thrilled to have been part of it.”

So far over £10,000 has been raised from the event will go towards supporting vital projects at Pinderfields Hospital, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality care and services for the people of Wakefield and beyond.
