Midwife at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals nominated for prestigious national award
We are proud to announce that Specialist Midwife Soffia Ashraf has been nominated for BAME Midwife of the Year at the National BAME Health & Care Awards.
Taking place on 9 June, the awards highlight and celebrate the exceptionally hard work of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) healthcare staff and the impact their work has on diversity and inclusion in health care.
Having qualified as a midwife in 2008 and starting her career at the Trust in February 2019, Soffia is a compassionate and inclusive member of the Mid Yorkshire team and is considered a role model by her colleagues in delivering high quality, safe midwifery practice to women and families in the local community.
On receiving her nomination, Soffia said, “To be nominated for the BAME Midwife of the Year award is nothing short of a privilege. As a midwife, my aim has always been to provide exceptional midwifery care to all women, regardless of their background. I’m incredibly proud and honoured to be nominated and I look forward to the awards taking place in June.”
David Melia, Director of Nursing and Quality, said: “On behalf of the entire Executive team at the Trust, I would like to congratulate Soffia on her nomination. You have shown admirable efforts towards providing compassionate, inclusive, patient-led care and you should be very proud of your achievements.
“I wish you the best of luck Soffia, and my sincerest thanks for all of your hard work.”
