Local community raise incredible £800,000 for MY MRI Appeal

MY Hospitals Charity, the registered NHS Charity supporting The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, has reached a significant milestone of £800,000 for MY MRI Appeal, thanks to outstanding community support.
A much-needed radiology Diagnostic Suite upgrade is currently in development at Pinderfields Hospital.
MY MRI Appeal was launched in 2022 to raise vital funds to ensure a state-of-the-art MRI scanner could be included in the new Suite, plus cover associated training costs. This will deliver on the Trust’s ambition to achieve an extraordinary service for the local population.
In recent months the local community has stepped up, with all manner of fundraising activities taking place. Healthy competition encouraged people to take part in quizzes and exercise challenges, and local businesses got involved with a popular Christmas Bauble campaign.
Keith Ramsay, Chairman of Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust and MY Hospitals Charity said;
I’d like to thank everyone who have supported MY MRI Appeal – the incredible support from the Muslim community supported by faith leaders, our partners who have made generous donations and people who have taken on challenges and time out of their busy lives to raise money for this cause.
MY MRI Appeal is one of the largest projects the Charity has ever appealed for and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of supporters. The support has shown the great community spirit and support for the NHS in Wakefield and North Kirklees.
Before Christmas 2024, the charity launched Hands Across Wakefield, an event to be hold on Friday 7 March, to commemorate 125 years since Pinderfields Hospital first opened and act as a powerful symbol of togetherness in Wakefield.

Our community, businesses, and schools are now rallying behind Hands Across Wakefield which is an opportunity to really celebrate the community spirit in our city and unite for a meaningful cause.
Over 2,000 people will gather to hold hands from the hospital all the way to Wakefield Cathedral – it really will be moment in history.
“It is safe to say we’re all very proud of the work MY Hospitals Charity is leading on at our Trust and I’m excited to continue to build strong relationships with the local community we serve.
