Successful bid for LED lighting

We are pleased to announce that a £2m bid submitted by the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust to NHS England for LED lighting upgrades has been successful.
This will enable a two-year programme of fluorescent lighting replacements to be undertaken across various areas of our Pinderfields and Pontefract sites.
Fluorescent lighting is now obsolete and means that it is not possible to replace it like-for-like. Using LED lighting as a replacement will provide improved performance, with LEDs currently being most energy-efficient lighting technology.
LED (which stands for light-emitting diode) light bulbs use less power, last longer and are more durable, whilst also offering comparable or better light quality than other types of lighting.
As well as replacing existing end-of-life equipment, LED lighting will benefit the Trust in efficiency savings, including annual energy bill savings of £500,000 and a reduction in emissions by approximately 500 tCO ₂ e per year. This reduction represents about 2% of the Trust's directly controlled emissions.
It is likely that the lighting replacement programme will start in the summer and this will be carried out by our facilities management partner Equans.
