Group A Strep - a guide to our services
We know that many parents and carers are worried about recent reports of cases of Group A Strep in children and young people. As a result of this we are seeing an increase in children being brought to our children’s A&E department. So far this month we have seen double the number (1000 more) than we had seen at this point last year.
Our fabulous staff are working extremely hard to care for all the children who come, but we are asking you to please be patient. With so many more children to see you may have to wait a bit longer than usual. We know this isn’t ideal and we know that many parents will be worried but please understand we are working as hard as we can.
Before you decide to come to A&E you may want to check the information on the NHS website, as it details when you should call your GP or 111 and when you should take your child to A&E. If you do still think A&E is the right place for your child, it would really help our busy department if just one parent or carer could accompany them in the waiting room. Not only does this leave a bit more space for everyone but it also helps to stop infections spreading.
We want to provide the best care we can to all the children in our care. Thank you.
