A festive support scheme giving back to those who care for loved ones receiving treatment at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust has been introduced by the Integrated Transfer of Care Hub, the Trust Catering team, and Carers Wakefield.

A touching token of appreciation is being presented in the form of a £4.50 gift voucher to show the invaluable gratitude to carers. The vouchers can be used at MY Hospitals Cafés across the Trust’s three sites, for a delightful coffee and cake bundle, offering a moment of respite and warmth during the festive season.

Lyndsey Scaife, Head of Discharge at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, and the creator of the tokens to carers, commented:

We recognise the immense dedication of carers; they play a pivotal role in the wellbeing of our patients. We hope this small gesture brings comfort and joy to those who give so much of themselves, and support ward staff by being present.

The Integrated Transfer of Care Hub is a system that streamlines the transition process for patients and their caregivers. It includes health and social care colleagues from the Trust and

partner agencies including Wakefield Carers and Age UK. The team work closely ensuring a smooth handover from hospital to home or other care settings.

Chris Evans, Chief Operating Officer, and Deputy Chief Executive added:

As a Trust, we value those who selflessly provide care and support to those in need who access our services. In appreciation of the hard work, our discharge teams are turning their focus to not only the wellbeing of patients but also to carers. It's our way of saying 'thank you' and acknowledging the tremendous impact these individuals make to the lives of others.

The Trust encourages the community to share this information with carers accessing our services, so we can all foster a spirit of giving during this special time of year.
