Following generous donations from local communities, Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is offering hospital staff, patients and visitors Iftar packs, allowing people to come together to break their fast during Ramadan.
Iftar is the evening meal with which Muslims end their daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Chaplaincy team estimate they will distribute around 700 packs, which contain dates, water, fruit, cereal bars and orange juice, offering a gesture of support and gratitude to colleagues.
Further encouraging the sense of community, the team will also be hosting an ‘open Iftar’ on Thursday 14 March, for staff to break the fast together and share a moment of reflection.
Len Richards, Chief Executive of Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, said: “We’re really pleased to be showing our appreciation to our Muslim colleagues and communities during this special month of Ramadan.
“We hope this gesture provides an atmosphere in which staff, particularly those working in our hospitals and out in the community, can take time away from their busy schedules to come together, share time and to break their fasts together.”
The Trust would like to thank Mullaco Supermarket, Mount Pleasant Islamic Trust (Madina Masjid), Alternative Therapy, Sukkur Cuisine and ChaiWala for their generous donations.
