Stay and Thrive: Carlos Del Rosario
As a Trust, we are proud to recruit Internationally Educated Nurses to support our nursing and midwifery workforce and our patients. We now have colleagues from all over the world, each bringing an individual set of experiences and skills that strengthen our workforce and the service we provide.
Carlos is one of our fantastic nurses who joined the Trust twenty-two years ago and has stayed with Mid Yorkshire to thrive in his career. This is his experience…
Hello, my name is Carlos Del Rosario, I am an Emergency Nurse Practitioner at Mid Yorks.
I was part of first cohort of international nurses from the Philippines who joined the Trust in 2001 years ago with my wife.
When we arrived in the UK, we were collected from the airport and were given three weeks free accommodation. During this time we had to adjust to life in the UK, the job role and find somewhere to call home.
A nice couple helped us furnished our first rented accommodation and we also spent our first family Christmas at a colleague’s home. We felt so welcomed, kindness from colleagues made all the difference.
Once starting my role, I was given a post at Pontefract General Infirmary as an A&E Staff Nurse. Mentorship in clinical areas was put in place upon my arrival and my manager was considerate in allowing annual leave for us to visit family at our home country. This eased our homesickness!
When I left the Philippines, I was a Senior A&E Nurse. It was very fulfilling when I completed my training as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner in 2011. It is an autonomous role which involves assessing, diagnosing, treating, and discharging patients in emergency care. A role I enjoy and still do to this day!
Moving to the UK to work for the Trust has provided myself and my family with many benefits. We have been able to set up a new life in surrounded by good people. I have been able to balance my home and work life, watching my children grow thanks to the Trust family friendly policy, this allowed me to effectively manage my work schedule.
I have been given the chance to fosters progression by being providing education and career opportunities. Mid Yorkshire also gave my wife the opportunity to pursue her nursing career.
Moving to the UK is an opportunity I would never change, thank you Mid Yorkshire for your support!
