My future professional route is brighter and more promising
Shamim started her NHS career as an Apprentice Healthcare Assistant, and now works as a Clinical Support Worker in the Emergency Department at Dewsbury and District Hospital.
As part of our plans to celebrate Nursing Support Workers' Day, she shares her experience of studying an apprenticeship.
When I began this apprenticeship, I was essentially a blank canvas in the health field. Now, as well as practicing safe patient care, I can perform clinical tasks such as venipuncture, cannulas, ECGs, bladder scans and more.

I have had an incredible time during this apprenticeship. Without it, I would not have had the opportunity to work in A&E and gain the clinical knowledge and expertise required for my position.
My confidence has grown, and I can now say to myself, I can do this, and I am good at this.
Thanks to this opportunity, along with making new acquaintances, I feel like an integral member of a well-balanced and encouraging team. It has given me the chance to grow and expand my career in the health sector. I now believe that my future professional route is brighter and more promising.
I have been recognised and encouraged within my department by numerous positive Friends & Family feedback and this in turn led to me being awarded the department’s Shining Star award.
The support and encouragement from all my colleagues and team members has been amazing.
If anybody wants to get into healthcare, then I would highly recommend this apprenticeship as a springboard to kick start your career.
Our apprenticeship offer will soon go live again, and any opportunities will be advertised on NHS Jobs, along with vacancies for Healthcare Support Workers and Clinical Support Workers.
