MY Doctor Appreciation Week Dr Preet Shah
Hello, my name is Dr Preet Shah. I am a ST7 trainee in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
I became a doctor for a multitude of reasons. I have an intrinsic helpful nature; and one of the most fulfilling aspects of being a doctor is the ability to make a real difference in people’s lives. I can help alleviate pain and suffering, and provide comfort to patients and their families during difficult times.
I enjoy practising a holistic approach to patient care, addressing not just physical health but also the mental and emotional aspects. Interacting with patients from diverse backgrounds enriches my understanding of different cultures and it improves my ability to provide culturally sensitive care.
Medicine is a field that requires continuous education and professional development. I enjoy learning and staying updated with the latest medical research and practices, and being a doctor provides endless opportunities for growth and intellectual development.
Doctors often play key roles in advocating for public health policies and leading healthcare initiatives. I feel I have the mettle to improve healthcare systems and patient outcomes. The challenges faced in the medical field can build personal resilience and strength. Overcoming these challenges can lead to a deep sense of personal accomplishment.
I find joy in teaching and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals. Sharing my knowledge and experience is incredibly rewarding for me, and it helps to ensure that the future of healthcare is in good hands.
