My Consultant – Dr Elmunzar Bagouri
Elmunzar Bagouri has worked in busy hospitals in Sudan and Canada but has now made his home in Yorkshire and joined Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. He loves the multiculturalism of the area, his colleagues, and his patients. This is Dr Bagouri’s story…
Hello, my name is Elmunzar Bagouri, and I have recently joined Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust as a trauma and revision arthroplasty consultant.
In my clinic , I see patients with hip and knee pain and arthritis. I perform hip and knee replacement surgeries, as well as revision surgery on patients who have had a previous replacement procedure. I have a special interest in muscle-sparing approaches that allow us to perform hip replacement surgery without cutting or damaging any muscle, resulting in faster patient recovery. I manage these patients along with an excellent team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nurses here at the trust.
I graduated from the University of Khartoum in Sudan and had my specialised orthopaedic training in North Yorkshire’s renowned rotation, before completing a fellowship in complex trauma at Kings College Hospital. My training then took me to one of the busiest centres in North America, where I performed arthroplasty on complex primaries and revision cases at the Holland Centre- Sunnybrook Hospital, in Toronto- Canada.
Having had such a fantastic experience here during my training, when I returned to the UK from Canada, I joined the fantastic team at Mid Yorkshire taking my current role as a consultant.
One of the things I love about this part of Yorkshire is the multiculturalism, of both my colleagues and the patients we care for. It truly is an inclusive and diverse organisation, which celebrates difference and sees it as an asset.
I am excited to be working in such a dynamic department, with a fantastic and supportive team of colleagues. It’s a team where everyone is working together to provide the very best care for our patients. There is a real drive for excellence in the department, and I’m excited to be a part of that going forward.
We also have excellent facilities here at the trust, which helps you to bring your best and to develop yourself, both as a doctor and as a person.
Outside of work, I’m a father of two and an avid Arsenal fan. I enjoy watching and playing football, reading, poetry and politics and have recently completed a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management. I also help manage two charities that help people in developing countries.
