Making a difference with an apprenticeship

The apprenticeship you are doing:

Registered Nursing Degree Apprenticeship

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

In 2022 I successfully completed the Trainee Nursing Associate degree with the Trust whilst working on Ward 2 at Dewsbury and District Hopsital, which led to me to taking on the role of a Registered Nursing Associate.

Following this, I felt it beneficial to apply for the Registered Nursing Degree Apprenticeship (RNDA), as I wanted to further my career within the hospital setting with a goal of making a difference to both staff and patients.

How has the apprenticeship benefited your career?

Now, after securing a place on the RNDA course, I am nearly eight months into an 18-month programme, with the end goal in sight.

Apprenticeships have made it possible for me to continue working with an on-par wage while also studying for a degree in something I am most passionate about.

Have you faced any challenges?

I have faced challenges such as balancing making time to study, complete assignments and revise for exams whilst working full time, but thanks to the support from my Ward Manager, Band 6s, family, work and university colleagues, I am achieving my goal.

What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?

The advice I would give to anyone applying for an apprenticeship is to find a good support network and be prepared to work hard throughout the course. And always remember......the end goal will be worth it!
