Celebrating National Admin Day - Hooria
It's National Administrative Professionals Day on Wednesday 24 April, and in recognition of the fantastic work our admin and clerical teams do, we will be sharing case studies from colleagues across the Trust.
Overview of your current job
My role as a Centralised Waiting List Office Clerk involves managing waiting lists for specific specialties including plastics and breast surgery. I liaise with consultant surgeons, patients and the management team to ensure bookings for surgical lists are made in a timely fashion.
We ensure patients get their important surgeries within target dates, prevent breaches, communicate with patients and are involved in MDTs to provide timely care for cancer patients.
The role is intense and rewarding, where we have to organise and deal with cancellations, re-scheduling of procedures, help prevent timeline breaches and manage the patients concerns all at the same time.
Please tell us about how you got here?
I was introduced to the role in a temporary position and managed to secure a permanent position in the team.
How has your role developed since you started your career?
I started by learning and shadowing more experienced colleagues and gaining confidence in performing the main duties of the role.
With more experience I was given more responsibility and eventually became a member of the plastics and breast specialties team.
What are the best bits about your role?
My role has helped me improve my organisational skills and communication abilities. It has helped me manage and empathise with patients.
I am surrounded by a great and supportive team; who are very helpful and help me improve myself every day.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to do a similar role/career?
The Centralised Waiting List Office department has taught me to not be afraid to make mistakes and learn from them. If you are a team player and show enthusiasm others around you will uplift you.
I am a proud member of the NHS.
