Case study: Aneesa, Healthcare Assistant
Aneesa stepping into healthcare following Covid-19 to fulfil her dream of giving back to her community. Leaving school at an early age, Aneesa took a non-traditional route into care but has found her feet at Mid Yorkshire as a Healthcare Assistant.
My journey to becoming a Healthcare Assistant is totally different to the normal procedure. I previously worked in a card factory after leaving school as I wanted to make some money. I worked in that role for nine years before being furloughed, something that was a blessing in disguise for me in the end.
When Covid-19 hit, my brother who is a Nurse at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust said to me to build up courage and change roles. He knew I wanted to follow in his footsteps, but I didn’t have any experience.
I took his advice and I got a job in a care home for six months, within this time I built up the experience I needed to take the next step. This is when I got my job offer in Pinderfields Hospital.
When my twin found out this news he was over the moon! He prepared me for what was ahead, which at first scared me a little bit but within four months I was settled and really happy.
I worked in Gate 41 at Pinderfields Hospital before being able to be transferred over to Dewsbury and District Hospital, which is closer to where I live.
I enjoy my job; it is challenging at times, but we all work as one compassionate team for the wellbeing of the patients.
It’s amazing to be able to communicate with the patients, to have company and to be there for someone. I enjoy making a bond and caring for patients, making them look and feel good in their hour of need.
I feel Healthcare Assistants do a great job at making a difference. I couldn’t be any happier in my role. If I could go back in time I would have done it all sooner!
