Achieving your goals through an apprenticeship

Your name: Linda
The apprenticeship you are doing:
Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship
Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?
I have worked as a Healthcare Assistant on the Acute Assessment Unit, Gate 43 Elderly, and A2 Stroke and Neurology. I really wanted to progress into nursing, so I applied and successfully completed the trainee nursing associate course and then moved on to the degree apprenticeship.
How has the apprenticeship benefited your career?
Gaining a funded place with Mid Yorks has allowed me to achieve a good work-life balance. I completed the course through a combination of theoretical study and practical placements.
The university lecturers were very supportive, and the course was well-structured and organised, enabling me to gain my nursing registration.
Have you faced any challenges?
I did face some challenges, including failing an assignment. However, I was given additional time for an extra learning block, which allowed me to build the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve my goal.
What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?
If you are a dedicated learner with a passion for nursing, I would encourage you to speak to Organisational Development and our Apprenticeship Team as soon as possible.
Taking that first step can set the ball rolling toward achieving your goals, just as it did for me!
