Clothes needed

The Dignity in Care Group at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is appealing to kind-hearted members of the public to once again donate ‘dignity clothes’ for patients who may need support in hospital and is particularly in need of men’s pants and socks.

Anita Ruckledge, Dementia Lead Nurse, at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust who is involved in the initiative, said: “We often see patients who, for various reasons, don’t have any suitable clean clothing, and want to be able to offer them good quality, warm clothes when they are discharged from hospital, especially during the winter months. This will go a long way in maintaining their dignity, and boosting their self-respect and confidence.

“At the moment we seem to have a real shortage of men’s pants and socks. So if anyone has received any garments of this nature for Christmas they are not too fond of then we would be more than happy to receive them.”

The Dignity in Care Group and hospital staff continue to provide ‘dignity clothes’ for patients who are homeless or living alone who don’t have suitable clothing to wear.  The group has set up a ‘dignity clothing cupboard’ at each of the three hospital sites (Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury and District), so that staff can easily access this facility for their patients.

Any kind donations can be handed in at the Volunteers’ Office, Gate 35, Level D at Pinderfields Hospital, Aberford Road, Wakefield, WF1 4DG. The only stipulation is that they must be new, not second-hand.

For more information or to arrange to have items collected please contact Anita Ruckledge, Dementia Lead Nurse, Anita.Ruckledge@midyorks.nhs.uk or call 07780954892.
