‘The Charitable Funds support a wide range of expenditure, all of which aim to improve the patient experience here at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
We try wherever possible to respect the wishes of those making donations about funds going to specific areas or for a specific purpose and we also have general funds to support Trustwide services or services at specific hospitals.
Some of the items of expenditure can be small, others can be large. and Charitable Expenditure can often be split into one of 4 key areas:
Between 2018 and Present we have approved funding towards improvements to patient care totalling £225,840.66
This includes £25,000 on Repose (Pressure) Cushions, £3,545.40 on Chemotherapy headscarves and £6,395.00 on a Thera-Trainer for our Physiotherapy department.
Also, we have facilitated additional equipment and resources to support our community teams. A Legacy has enabled the Trust's adult community team to purchase more bladder scanners, Doppler ultrasound machines, electrocardiogram (ECG) machines, reclining chairs and a dedicated relative’s room at the Trust's Wakefield Intermediate Care Unit, Queen Elizabeth Road.
Between 2018 and Present we have approved funding towards improvements to patient experience of £256,989.61
This includes £149,600.00 on enhancing the environment on our wards at Dewsbury & District Hospital, £5,489.04 on upgrading our patient 'quiet rooms' and £5,715.05 on visualite wall tiles at Dewbury's Radiology Suite.
Also, we have supported the creation of Relatives Overnight Rooms. The rooms are now available to be used by the families of patients who are in the palliative and critical stages of their treatment, this provides families with privacy and dignity at often stressful and traumatic times. The rooms are fully furnished with reclining chairs, drinks facilities, TV and ensuite facilities.
Between 2018 and Present we have approved funding towards staff training totalling £46,498.95
This includes £26,280.00 on a temporary educational position in our Chemotherapy & Cancer department and £2,992.50 for staff members to receive further training in Midwifery and Nursing.
Between 2018 and Present we have approved funding towards gifts, trips and activities for our patients totalling £45,177.30
This includes £1612.00 on a Paediatric Diabiates away day and £2,050 on a day at Peak Ven Outdoor for 40 of our patients.
